Monumental: Race, Representation, Culture

My first book shows how the role of monuments has shifted significantly in the last fifty years, from telegraphing the ideological values of dominant culture, to reinscribing narratives long excluded from it, and doing so in formal terms that challenge our understanding of what, precisely, a monument is. My second book asks what it means to look trans; to see in a trans way; and whether, to what degree, and under what circumstances it makes sense to think the trans separate from or together with queer. sSolicited by MIT Press for their new series On Seeing.
