Cat Dawson

I am an academic, critic, and strategist.

🪸

I work at the intersection of the history of art, and feminist, queer, and trans studies. My research explores the relationship between culture, technology, and the body in art by minoritized artists. My first book, Monumental: Race, Representation, Culture, will be published by MIT Press in 2024. My second book, Trans Form: Imaging Trans Bodies in Science and Society, has also been solicited by MIT Press.

For AY 22-23, I was the Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow, Sawyer Seminar on Race and Visual Culture in the Americas, History of Art and Architecture, UMass Amherst, and a Lecturer in Art at Smith College. For AY 23-24 I am excited to join Sarah Lawrence College as Guest Faculty in Art History!

💥

I also work with non-profits and early stage start-ups to develop and execute digital strategy.

🪐

I sit on the boards of Sidwell Friends School and Project for Empty Space. When not working I can be found scouring the internet for very specific objects, doing some kind of seasonally appropriate outdoor activity, or traveling
